Last weekend Cheryl Fernandez-Virsini (was Cole) marked a successful return to the X-Factor by bringing 'the girls' down to the getaway-of-choice for the world’s rich and famous: Nice. Accompanied by collaborator Tine Tempah, Cheryl headed to celebrity hotspot Saint-Tropez to give the hopefuls a real taste of the what the French Riviera has to offer. Among the girls in Cheryl’s X-Factor category was Chloe Jasmine, who said: “Travelling to Nice was like a holiday, it was nice that it was close to home and it felt like going away with friends rather than being in a competition." The French Riviera has long provided a playground for the world's wealthiest celebrities with Nice seeing regular visits from Sylvester 'Sly' Stallone, Paris Hilton, and Kim Kardashian's best friend and PR whiz Jonathan Cheban.

You’ve landed on the French Riviera. Come July, it seems like life along this golden strip of coastline is one big party. Mornings kick off with market jaunts, lunches are spent over a lazy bottle of rosé. And who can resist a refreshing dip in the sea at sundown? But on July 14, that holiday sensation feels like it has been cranked up a notch.

Allez Glossop

Our pretty village town of Glossop (the home of our UK office) seems to be coming down with yellow fever, and language as we know it is being replaced by cries of “Allez, Allez”. And it’s only set to spread. Though it’s far from a nasty affliction, it’s the gearing up for the 2014 Tour de France. The world’s most famous cycling race is starting its 101th Tour from the unexpected English Yorkshire Dales on Saturday 5th July.

We’re just about able to stand on our tiptoes and see over the brown paper boxes containing yep, our 5th Pebbles Guide. 1,000 of them arrived at our UK offices this morning, and the other 24,000 copies are trundling down the motorway making the journey over to Nice. They say they are going to be there by Monday, but we’re hoping not since our usual storage place can’t home the 15 pallets and we’re desperately seeking another! It will all work out in the end…

At least one letter the rather surly postman delivers to our office a week is addressed to “Nice Peebles”. Well in the spirit of full disclosure, Patricia Peebles is of no connection to Pebbles, save for she was a guest visiting us from the US who volunteered to be a Secret guest for her stay in our Boucherie apartment in March 2013.

Nice seems to have its own soundtrack in early summer. The festivals and concert dates come tumbling after one another in such quick succession that the city is rarely silent.
