Riviera Pebbles Blog: Alounak
Posted on 19th Jul 2018 in Eats & Drinks

Alounak
3 rue d'Alsace Lorraine
Alounak prides itself on the hearty meals suitable for most eating genres: vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free friendly and carnivores (though meat dishes are a token few – the flip side of a standard restaurant). So, as the owner says himself, it’s a restaurant for vegans who have non-vegan friends. The owner is a vegan, and is very happy to talk vegan, but also happy in the company of meat-eaters too. It’s just good honest food, from an owner with a similar personality.
The menu showcases only a handful of choices, ones you can be sure have been expertly cooked from fresh ingredients. Tastefully decorated and with friendly, English / French / Swedish speaking service, you can really settle in and feel like you're being welcomed in to someone's dining room. It's ideal if you're looking for home cooked food, without the washing up.
We've tried and tested the menu for you already and can confidently recommend taking the Vegetarian Set Menu at only 13€ which gets you a starter and a main. A more specific highlight from the menu is the stuffed vine leaves and pitta bread with fresh tomatoes as a starter. After this, you can follow with vegetarian couscous, ratatouille or the chicken tadjine as a main. There's also a range of dessert items, many of them vegan like the cookies, pastries and chocolate pudding, if you're not too full already.
It’s easy to find, just off the Jean Medecin shopping street, and many use it as a pit stop because it’s no fuss and open on Mondays, when other restaurants might be closed. A very handy place if you are arriving back on the train, or doing some shopping on the high street.
Open: Mon-Sat 12:00pm-2:30pm, Mon-Sun 7:00pm-10:30pm.
